Having grown up with computers starting with my first Apple //e at the ripe at of 13, I always kept in touch with my geek side as I went through college, medical school and residency. I saw many things that got in the way of good medical care that could easily be taken care of by the proper use of computers. Many people were concerned that computers would depersonalize the doctor-patient relationship. I have found that it leaves more time for person-to-person contact.
Through the proper use of computers, we at Macaluso Medical have been able to achieve the following:
· Being able to spend more time with the patient
· All notes and records are legible
· We can send reports to your other doctors almost
instantaneously
· We can get either online access to or compact disc versions
of your imaging studies which often allows me to show you
exactly what is (or is not) going on in your body
· While words are good in explaining a concept, a computer
generated movie can show you something that your brain can
more easily store and interpret
· Allows us to better handle the demands put on private
practice doctors by the insurance companies
· It is better for the environment. Picture the largest collection
of patient charts that you have ever seen at a doctor’s office
then notice the size of a server and two external hard drives.
